ABOUT THE PROCESS

Each piece is crafted by my hands so is individual to me

My work is about creating unique objects and limited edition collections rather than mass production of identical forms.

ABOUT ME

My love for pottery started as a hobby which gave me mental space and time from the demands of running a law practice and bringing up three children. Moving to our small farm saw me switching demanding clients for demanding livestock and I started selling a few pots at fairs alongside blankets and sheepskins from our flock of rare breed sheep. Over the last couple of years the focus on my ceramics has increased and in early 2026, I rebranded as Megan Keech Ceramics.

The joy of a hand crafted piece is that it provides a brief chance in our hectic lives to savour small acts...

...like drinking a morning coffee from a perfectly balanced mug or enjoying the gorgeous beauty of a dahlia flower displayed in a graceful bud vase.

The soft purity of porcelain makes it a pleasure to handle

Although I occasionally use other clays, I work predominantly in porcelain and the majority of my work is hand thrown on the wheel. Despite it being an incredibly fickle medium, the translucence and delicacy of the finished object make the frustrations worthwhile.

The delicacy of the medium belies the fact that my pieces are practical, robust enough for daily use and the majority can go in the dishwasher.

My kitchen acts as a testing ground and is full of my pieces, many of which have been part of regular family use for years. So I can attest to how hard wearing porcelain is.

My brain is constantly fizzing with ideas for shapes and designs

I love creating pieces that are beautiful yet also practical. What makes the perfect mug? What shapes of vase are best for different types of flower? What's the most useful bowl size?

Seeing the pleasure that my work can bring to others is a great motivator

To be told that using one of my mugs for a daily coffee brings a person joy each morning inspires me to believe in myself as a maker. To have someone choose one of my pieces as the focal point at their wedding or as a special gift for a loved one is extremely humbling.
